QLD coal-fired power plant - case study.

Coal ash pond dewatering system for a QLD power generation facility.

XPEL partnered with a power generation site in Queensland, Australia, to develop a practical method to lower water levels in its coal ash ponds. We delivered a targeted solution built around six XPEL evaporation units designed to stabilize pond levels and support continuous site operations.

The XPEL evaporation system comprises five 200/100 evaporators and one 400/200 unit, with a combined throughput of 1,400 GPM (315 m³/hour). The system enabled efficient dewatering and reduced environmental risk linked to stored water. It supported compliance, improved operational stability, and demonstrated the value of scalable evaporation systems for power generation facilities.

Advanced water evaporation systems for power generation by XPEL.

This facility required reliable water control to manage coal ash ponds safely and maintain operational continuity. Rising water levels placed pressure on storage areas, increased environmental exposure, and challenged compliance requirements. XPEL’s mechanical evaporation system offered a straightforward solution by lowering stored water volumes without interrupting power generation or relying on costly disposal methods.

In this project, the XPEL multi-unit system processed 315 m³/hour of stored water. This performance enabled the facility to manage pond levels with confidence and maintain consistent site conditions in a demanding operating environment.

Engineered reliability delivered by XPEL.

  • High-capacity dewatering: The six XPEL evaporation units delivered strong throughput across coal ash ponds. This performance supported predictable and efficient water reduction.

  • Operational stability: Consistent evaporation helped maintain safe pond levels, lowering operational strain and supporting continuous power generation.

  • Environmental compliance: Reduced stored water volumes decreased environmental exposure and strengthened responsible site management.
