WA alumina refinery - case study
Residue storage dewatering system for a Western Australian alumina refinery.
XPEL partnered with an alumina refinery in Western Australia to effectively control excess water in its residue storage areas and avoid costly risks. We deployed a high-capacity solution using 15 floating evaporators designed to stabilize storage conditions and support safe, compliant operations.
Our advanced residue disposal solution consisted of 15 floating evaporators, which provided a combined throughput of 2,850 GPM (648 m³/hour), enabling consistent water reduction across the residue areas. This provided a reliable and effective method for reducing water, in turn reducing environmental risk, improving storage stability, and enabling uninterrupted refinery operations.
Advanced Water Evaporation Systems for alumina refining by XPEL.
This refinery managed extensive residue storage areas where excess water increased environmental exposure, challenged structural stability, and added pressure to regulatory obligations. XPEL’s mechanical evaporation systems offered a reliable method for reducing stored volumes and maintaining safe storage conditions under variable inflow and weather patterns.
With 15 XPEL floating evaporators on site delivering a total of 648 m³/hour of evaporation capacity, the refinery maintains safe water levels, reduces exposure risks, and supports continuous operational stability.
Engineered reliability delivered by XPEL.
High-volume dewatering: Multiple XPEL floating evaporators delivered strong throughput across large residue storage areas. This performance supported predictable and efficient water reduction.
Operational and structural stability: Consistent evaporation helped maintain safe storage conditions, reduced operational risk, and supported continuous refinery output.
Environmental compliance: Lower stored water volumes supported adherence to regulatory standards and strengthened long-term environmental performance.
